In the year 2179 police lieutenant Jasper Stone is called on to solve a high profile murder. When the murders multiply, he finds himself tangled in a web of complicated motives, drug smuggling, and blackmail--and protecting the woman who might be behind it all.

Murder is Bliss Jasper Stone Book 1 The Jasper Stone Series edition by Ellen Anthony Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

Murder is Bliss does what no other book set in the future has ever done for me--captured and held my attention. It also didn't have me shaking my head at what I considered outlandish developments. Ellen Anthony has managed to create a future society that is both interesting and believable.

That isn't all that held my attention. While I have difficulty feeling satisfied after reading most mystery novels, I ended this book with a "Wow!". I normally figure out who is the "bad guy" by the second or third chapter. While I was partially correct with this book, there were so many plot twists that I had only figured out the tip of the iceberg.

I also enjoyed the fact that Ms. Anthony has a well-developed sense of dialogue. This book was more dialogue than narrative, which carried the story forward nicely. She not only has a keen sense of how people really talk and behave, but is able to convey this to the reader easily. She also leaves minor details to the reader's imagination, something I particularly enjoy and do not find often in today's authors.

All in all, there was only one disappointment I had with Murder is Bliss--it ended and I didn't have the second book to read. While each book in the Jasper Stone series is a stand-alone, I liked the characters so well I felt like I was saying goodbye to old friends when this book ended.

Murder is Bliss Jasper Stone Book 1 The Jasper Stone Series edition by Ellen Anthony Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Fantastic story line, great characters, keeps you in suspense. There is not a single thing I disliked about this book.
I really felt I was living in the future with Jasper and Jewel. Ellen takes you on a journey and doesn't let you go home without wishing you could have stayed. I want to live there!
Excellent reading, highly recommend this for anyone liking mystery novels. It is easy to see why Ellen is winning awards for her writings when one sits down and starts reading. Intelligent, thought provoking creation, you enter a different world when you begin this read and soon find yourself immersed in the life of Jasper Stone. Thank you Ms. Anthony for providing a unique and special book for the reader. Looking forward to reading the next in the series!!!
Well written and an interesting plot from the start.
Another great book by Ellen Anthony. This time, she took the standard "police procedural" murder mystery story and twisted it a bit. The setting is the near future .. but there are no rayguns, faster than light ships, or teleportation. It's set on an Earth after many years of pollution. .. most cities are underground, there are colonies on Mars and the Moon, but Earth is still Earth, there are only believable incremental changes in living standards, laws, drugs (yes there are still drugs and addicts). All of this is the background for a multiple murder scenario affecting a single family and the process of protecting the remaining family members and solving the crimes.

All in all, solid, believable characters, an interesting story and a nice way to spend an evening or two figuring out "whodunnit". I'm awaiting more stories from Ms. Anthony .. she's an excellent writer.
After a week of nonstop reading of the Jasper Stone series, I feel bereft. The characters felt real, and were remarkably varied, and I miss them already. Despite the complexity of the plots (some threads arced over several books), the action bustled along through the not-too-distant future, driven mostly by the characterizations. I usually take off a star for editing and grammar errors, but common homonym mixups and incorrect past tense verbs were not a stumbling block for me this time.
I really liked this book. The combination of a police procedural mystery with the science fiction of it being set about 160 years in the future worked very well. It is really a mystery, but the future setting was well done and added a lot to the story for me.

It was very well written and generally well edited. There were some glaring editing/grammar/proofreading issues that kept me from giving this one a five-star rating. I've actually read all the novels in this sequence (through number 5) and my same comments would apply to all of them. I liked them all very much.

My grammar quibbles; only because they made me slow down and try to be sure what she meant "Whose" is a possessive (Whose shoes are those?) and does not mean "who is" or "who has." That would be "who's." That is probably the most common and irritating of the errors, but there was also the usual reversal of "its"/"it's". "It's" always means "it is" or "it has." If the sentence doesn't read correctly with those words, you are using the wrong form. There were lots of missing commas as well. BTW, from a couple of the later stories; an unknown, possibly hostile, airplane/ship/car is a bogey plural bogies or bogeys, not boogie which was an old dance.
